""THE PYRE" NEW WORKS BY RAVI ZUPA

WARNING, MAY CAUSE A BURNING SENSATION

Temperatures rise at Illiterate as Ravi Zupa engulfs the gallery with his searingly sharp representations of the past and present. Historical styles are collected and rearranged as the kindling for drawings, paintings and sculptures that blaze with the intensity of a modern man’s angst as he attempts to place his own contemporary struggles amongst turmoils in time.

The Pyre, an exhibit of new works by Zupa, is directly inspired by a collaborative book project by the same name between the artist and renowned hip hop musician, Tim Holland, better known as Sole, founder of the Anticon record label, and leader of Sole and the Skyrider band. The book, also titled "the Pyre" revolves around the incendiary, with an epic poem by Sole interwoven with accompanying illustrations by Zupa. Both radical minds ripped from the same flaming cloth, this is not the duo's first mutual effort, with Sole previously calling upon Zupa to direct a number of his and other Anticon artists music videos. Though the work in this exhibit exists outside the narrative within "the Pyre" book, as Zupa puts it, "they are the direct result of the same fire and seek to convey the same skepticism, want, desperation, and optimism". Enter the Pyre and look through the eyes of an artist fueled by a world he sees all around and behind him poised to be set in flame.

Join Bicycle Colorado, elected officials and friends of bicycling as we show the world we will not stand for any bike bans in Colorado!

The Black Hawk Bike Ban issue is getting international press during Colorado Bike Month. Help us show the press and lawmakers that we will not stand for bike bans anywhere in our state. This is an important step in our campaign to challenge this ban and prove that Colorado is a great state for bicycling!

Bring protest signs or arrive early and we will have materials available for you. Invite your friends!

Seriously, kids, if you have a problem with something, do a damn thing to change it. There's no harm in trying and XRocksTheSpot loves bikes, so we love the fact that we can freely roam the streets in Denver. This might not be the case in a few months if nobody voices their opinion.

Loops is a Tuesday night bike ride through out central Denver. The ride covers approximately 15 to 20 miles and makes 3 to 4 stops along the way. Riders are encouraged to ride at their own pace and meet at the stops that are posted on this blog the day of the ride. The ride meets every Tuesday night at Crema Coffee House (29th & Larimer) Come out and ride with us, make friends, and have a good time.

Here was the ride out to Sloans Lake on the Loops 2 year anniversary.
