MARCH 14TH ARTISTS RECEPTION 6-9pm
7pm artist talk by New York based artist Charles Wilkin

Charles will give the gallery a talk about his creative process. His assemblages attempt to transpose disjointed remnants of media overload and targeted consumption into tangible yet uncertain analogies. His motivation and objective is simply to mirror our behavior by fusing these cultural fragments into new stories that challenge our collective assumptions and aspirations. http://charleswilkin.com/

The Vital Illusion is Inspired by Baudrillard.

"To challenge and to cope with this paradoxical state of things, we need a paradoxical way of thinking; since the world drifts into delirium, we must adopt a delirious point of view."

"But for the present age, which prefers the sign to the thing signified, the copy to the original, representation to reality, appearance to essence... truth is considered profane, and only illusion is sacred. Sacredness is in face held to be enhanced in proportion as truth decreases and illusion increases, so that the highest degree of illusion comes to be the highest degree of sacredness." --Feuerbach, Preface to the second edition of The Essence of Christianity

“RuiNation” a photography exhibit by two Mid-West Brothers who see beauty in the Rust-Belt’s urban decay to open at Sellars Project Space this November

Join brothers, Jeff and Joshua Ball, November 4th from 6-9 p.m. at Sellars Project Space located at 4383 Tennyson Street for their new exhibit, RuiNation, The Rust-Belt Remains.

The Industrial Revolution is officially over. After an era of cultural optimism and pure industrial might, the United States no longer finds itself in a booming manufacturing-based economy. Many plants have closed, supply lines slowed and our once-proud workforce has faded into office cubicles and super-store checkout lines. The revolution is dead and the result is a sprawling countryside peppered with barren smokestacks and blackened factory framing. Within that imagery lived the inspiration for a project that would ultimately become RuiNation.

This exhibition continues through October 31st, 2011. Sellars Project Space is located at 4383 Tennyson Street in Denver, Colorado. About Haverkamp's work in his own words

Travel is a form of pilgrimage for me, but one whose reasons are only revealed upon arrival. Places are not destinations but starting points. By leaving home, one sees with "new" eyes, with a sense of wonderment and attentiveness to detail. The untainted eye drinks in the landscape, until it makes sense, and then attempts to express the spirit of a space with images.

To anchor my understanding of a place, I need solitude, to experience the environment fully and without distractions. This need grows stronger when I return to places I have been before. Then I notice the alterations in a place, what they tell and how I too have changed since last visiting. This experience is a purely intuitive process of observation, revelation, and stillness. I attempt to inhabit the heart of the space, what it is, what has happened in it, who was here, and what it tells me about myself. I try to weave each of these threads into my photos.

The Postmedia Critiques

"Redline is proud to announce our newest monthly public program "The Postmedia Critiques". Envisioned as a hub for the emerging digital and new media artists of Denver these sessions seek to collect and catalyze the regionally distributed niche culture of new media artists.

These gatherings seek artists who employ new modes of being and whose artistic practice is based on behavior rather than media.

The critiques themselves are not strictly digital media, and are meant to look beyond medium. Creatives working within any field are encouraged to participate.

Sessions are held on the first Thursday of the month at 7:30 pm

If you would like to have your work critiqued please RSVP to sterlingcrispin@gmail.com , be sure to include a brief description of your piece and any physical or technical requirements. A projector and mac laptop are available, for additional details please email."

Illiterate presents Jolly B 13, a group exhibition of thirteen well established artists whose works range from contemporary folk and outsider art to highly graphic forms and pop surrealism. Guest curated by artist Jeremy "THINKMULE" Pruitt, this numerically driven assemblage is to him is "a celebration of the diversity of art". The numeric title of the show reflects Pruitt's personal affinity for the symbolic value of digits apparent in his own practice. In this case his attention turned towards the number 13 and the contentious associations it contains. As an object of superstition, it has captivated people of many beliefs for millennia and evoked a range of connotations in mythology depending on the cultural reference.

Jolly B 13 is an exhibition of artists who through their varied associations will playfully contribute additional perspectives to this most polarizing prime number. From uninhibited primitive representation and expressively grotesque subject matter to delicately polished and meticulous renderings of strange fantasies, this eclectic collection begs consideration in its juxtaposition of approaches to object making. Whether a skeptic or a believer, the inherent meaning between this body of work, like that of the number 13, will certainly remain in the eye of the beholder.
